Clutch finish at Dominican gives Blue Angels second straight win

River Forest, IL- The Mount Mary basketball team headed to Dominican University on Saturday, seeking their second win in as many days.  With four minutes to play, the game was tied at 56.  The Blue Angels would come up with two clutch baskets and defensive stops to hold off Dominican by a final score of 61-58.

Baskets by Joselyn Gonzales and India Lucas and a clutch free throw by Deja Rivers put MMU in a position to win with 5 seconds to play, the Stars managed to attempt a would be game tying three point shot, but it fell short as Mount Mary celebrated their sixth win of the season and first road win over a Northern Athletics Conference opponent since the 2018-19 season.

Brianna Mendez was the scoring leader for the Blue Angels for a second straight day, she had 17 points to follow up her 25 on Friday evening.  She added three more three point goals to cap off a remarkable two day stretch in which she went 10-18 from behind the arc.  Mendez also added nine rebounds.

Sanai Ballard dropped in 12 points, including a 6-6 performance from the free throw line.  India Lucas came up just shy of a double double with an outstanding performance of eight points and 10 rebounds.

Mount Mary attempted 22 foul shots to just 15 for Dominican which proved to be a huge difference in the game.

The Blue Angels (6-6) have now won 2 straight and 3 out of their last four.  They have also defeated four NCAA opponents already during the 23-24 campaign, just one shy of the program record.

Mount Mary will have one more contest before the Christmas Holiday.  The Blue Angels will host the University of Olivet on Tuesday, December 19th, the game begins on 5 pm and all coverage can be found on www.mtmaryathletics.com
