CARLINVILLE, Ill. – The Mount Mary University soccer squad headed to west central Illinois Sunday for a noon matchup at Blackburn College but came home empty-handed after a 6-0 loss to the host Beavers.

With just nine Blue Angels making the trip, Blackburn also accommodated its substitution rotation around eight-player-plus-goalkeeper personnel. With an open field, the Beavers took control early, notching four goals in the first 32 minutes of the game. Blackburn would take 31 shots in the first half alone compared to just one for Mount Mary.

The Beavers added two more goals in the second half on 13 shots while MMU was able to put three of its four shots on goal in the second stanza.

Freshman goalkeeper Michelle Stepniewski (Wautoma, Wis.) took the loss, saving 10 of 16 Blackburn shots on goal.

The Blue Angels, who fell to 3-10 overall with Sunday's loss, will have only Monday off before returning to the soccer pitch, hosting Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference member Lakeland College in a 4 p.m. start. The Muskies are 3-6-1 on the year.
