Blue Angels Get First Victory

Blue Angels Get First Victory

MILWAUKEE – The Mount Mary University tennis team won their first match of the season 8-1 over visiting Lakeland College. Perhaps more importantly, it marks the first conference win for the Blue Angels moving their record to 1-5 (1-3).

An excited coach Callie Schroeder on the victory, "First team win! Exciting play, everyone played their game and won good points. Proud of the girls for continuing to play to their tennis abilities even though the opponents had different skill levels."

That win evens up the Muskies/Blue Angels series at 2 wins each. And the second straight win for MMU in that series coming off the 9-0 sweep in 2014.

The singles play for the Blue Angels clinched the evening, coming home with all six team points. Ana Mercado (Jr./Grafton, Wis.) grabs her first win of the season in the number one singles spot.

A refreshed Blue Angels roster used the recent time off to get healthy and prepare for this weekend's conference matchups. The 2-1 win in doubles play start was a big help in the victory. Mercado and Marissa Rechlicz (So./West Allis, Wis.) won their match Emma Schad and Mikayla Hilton 8-1 in the number one doubles spot.

Amy Gossett (Fr./Franklin, Wis.) and Brooke Slamka (Sr./Racine, Wis.) won the first number two doubles of the season in a 8-4 match over the team of Ann Schroeder and Courtney Kienast.

Following the win over the Muskies, the Blue Angels will host Concordia Wisconsin at Hart Park Sat. Sept 12 beginning at 3:00 pm. The Falcons are 1-1 (1-0) going into Saturday's match.
